Florida State is on a fast track to the College Football Playoff and a strong first quarter against Virginia Tech left no doubt — at first, at least. The score was so lopsided during the first half that even the Hokies started rooting for the Seminoles.

That’s when you know it’s ugly…

Fifth-ranked, undefeated Florida State hosted 2-3 Virginia Tech in Tallahassee on Saturday. It did not go well for the visitors during the first quarter.

FSU jumped out to a 22-0 nothing lead during the first 15 minutes. However, the Seminoles failed to score during the second quarter and gave up 10 points during that stretch.

Although a 22-10 score at halftime could have been much worse for the Hokies, there was not much hope based on how things were going. Virginia Tech’s offense totaled just 33 yards through the air and failed to convert on all seven third down attempts. Yikes.

The Seminoles were on fire early but could not get out of their own way and shot themselves in the foot with six penalties. Also yikes.

As their team’s offense struggled to move the ball, the fans at Doak S. Campbell kept their foot on the gas and tried to rattle their opponents at every possible opportunity. Of course, that included the ever-controversial “Tomahawk Chop.”

No matter how you feel about the tradition, there is no denying that it creates one of the most electric environments in college football. 82,000 fans joining together in voice is intimidating. Period.

Some people love Florida State’s war chant. Some people hate it.

The visiting fanbase usually hates it. Not on Saturday!

Virginia Tech was getting beat so badly that their own fans decided to join in.

Little did the side-switchers know, their team was not dead yet! The Hokies opened the second half with a touchdown on their opening drive and silenced Doak S. Campbell stadium. There was no Tomahawk Chop on which to join in during the start of the third quarter, you could have heard a pin drop!

And then Florida State immediately scored again……….
