Some big news out of Facebook’s parent company Meta this week was the launch of a free AI image generator standalone website by the name of ‘Imagine with Meta AI.’

This is a monumental achievement from Meta and the potential applications are endless. Imagine with Meta AI is going to be a great way for users to create fun AI-generated images on the fly. And this was made possible by Meta using its Emu image-synthesis model which used 1.1 billion publicly available images across Instagram and Facebook.

1.1 billion is a LOT LOT LOT of images for Meta’s Emu image-synthesis model to have access to but in the grand scheme of things, Imagine with Meta AI is practically a newborn. And there are a lot of kinks that will need to be worked out. Case in point, I asked Imagine with Meta AI to imagine what each of the College Football Playoffs mascots would look like (according to AI). Most schools already have known mascots so the results here are fascinating…

To start, I went with the prompt ‘College Football Playoffs mascot’ and the results are so incredibly generic I’m not entirely sure what I expected to happen here:

Now let’s go team by team, from 4 to 1. Starting with Bama, here’s what Imagine with Meta AI thinks the Alabama Crimson Tide’s mascot looks like:

Here is what Meta’s AI imagines the Texas Longhorns’ mascot looks like. The huge steer on a human’s body is, by far, my favorite of the Meta AI images…Also, AI clearly cannot spell ‘Texas.’

Meta’s AI did a pretty, pretty fantastic job with the Washington Huskies mascot. If we were having an AI mascot contest, it would be down to Texas vs Washington in the Championship.

As I’m sure everyone knows, Michigan doesn’t have an official mascot. This is rare in College Football. So last but certainly not least, the #1 team in the nation… Meta’s AI imagines what the Michigan Wolverines mascot would look like if it existed:

If we were giving out awards for ‘most terrifying’ then Michigan’s AI mascots would win.

For anyone looking to tinker around with the Imagine with Meta AI tool yourself, it can be found at that link. But there’s some additional registration required on the Meta side and isn’t as simple as already being logged on through Facebook.
