With a name like Weird Al, you know he wasn’t looking to ever enjoy mainstream success. But dammit if here in 2014, the parody singer is enjoying a week in the public eye. Raise your hand if you saw that one coming.
His latest is titled “Sports Song” and, you guessed it, it’s a song about sports.
For all the disparate words and melodies of sporting chants, they basically break down to one thing: “we’re great and you suck.”
Weird Al’s cultural relevance graph is absolutely fascinating. Long periods of inactivity and then large spikes. Kind of serial-killer-esque, only way more fun.
