The West Virginia baseball team booked its ticket to the Super Regionals in surprising fashion over the weekend. Entering the field as a three-seed, the underdogs emerged victorious in Tucson, Arizona.

After sweeping through the regional round, the Mountaineers were seen celebrating in fitting fashion.

WVU’s run to the Supers began with an opening round win over two-seed Dallas Baptist. Host team Arizona, a four-time baseball national champion, then fell to a Grand Canyon team that wasn’t even supposed to be in the field, setting up a matchup between the Mountaineers and ‘Lopes.

West Virginia would beat GCU twice over the next two days to sweep through the bracket and keep their title hopes alive in head coach Randy Mazey’s final season.

A celebration ensued!

This is West Virginia’s first time advancing past the Regional round, and it gave the Mountaineers a chance to take over Arizona’s ballpark – which they’d do in epic fashion!

John Denver’s “Country Roads” blared across the stadium loudspeakers as fans who’d made the trip to the West Coast joined the team in song.

The scene was incredible!

West Virginia’s Randy Mazey isn’t ready for the season to end!

The head coach previously announced that this would be his final season, and what a ride it’s been. While he’s already made history with his postseason performance, he’s not ready for the year to end quite yet!

He was emotional in a postgame press conference when speaking on his team and its championship aspirations.

“I want it so bad for guys who’ve never experienced this before,” he said.

“You have no idea how bad I want these guys to experience that… I want it for these guys, and the entire university, community and the state. I want it so bad for everybody.”

Mazey has already written his name in the WVU history books. Now, he’s hoping his farewell tour continues on!

The Mountaineers will match up with either UNC or LSU in the Super Regionals next weekend.
