The #1 ranked golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler, got off to a quick start at Royal Birkdale Golf Club with 4 birdies in his first 6 holes. Scottie would come back to earth some throughout the round and finish at -2 and t14 headed into the Second Round.

Prior to the start of the 154th Open Championship, Scottie Scheffler played a practice round with Australian golfer Travis Smyth. Travis is a former LIV Golf tour member and he currently plays on the Asian Tour. He had some choice words when asked what it was like to play with Scottie.

Travis Smyth’s Ringing Endorsement Of Scottie Scheffler: ‘He’s Not A D— Head

When it comes to colorful language, Aussies have a way with words we simply cannot comprehend here in America. They have a gift for weaving profanity in and out of conversation effortlessly in ways that would offend millions of Americans who shudder at the sound of certain words.

When asked what it was like to play with the #1 ranked golfer in the world, Travis Smyth praised Scheffler’s iron striking and personality. His full quote was shared in a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter) by Kyle Porter. Here’s what he had to say:

Travis Smyth: “Yeah, yesterday was pretty sweet, playing with Scottie for the first time. Watching the precision of his iron play was amazing. It was kind of demoralizing a little bit. It was like, damn, when I play good, I don’t think I have that in me.

But it was good. It lights a fire in my stomach and makes me want to work hard. Now that I’ve seen what No. 1 in the world looks like, a little bit of a taste – it was only nine holes, but it was a great experience watching him play.

He’s a lovely guy, really down to earth, which I’m happy about. He’s not like a d— head or anything. So it was good.

There you have it, folks. Scottie Scheffler is a master ball striker and not a jerk. Anyone paying attention knew this already as Scottie is completely kind and fair with the media and strangers. He seems to get along with all of his peers when they aren’t antagonistic.

Travis Smyth finished Round 1 at +1. He bogeyed 2 of his first 3 holes before settling down some. Smyth had birdies on #5 and #14. I just came across this video too. Interesting that he doesn’t drink during tournament weeks and stipulates that here:

Rooting for him?
