Golf’s longest day delivered the goods on Monday with 672 golfers competing for just 44 spots in next week’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst in North Carolina. Of those 672 golfers competing in 2024 U.S. Open Final Qualifying there were 17 LIV Golf players in the field and of those 17 just two advanced to Pinehurst.

For those unfamiliar, what is known as ‘Golf’s Longest Day’ is the final day of U.S. Open Qualifying where golfers from all walks of life, from top 100 golfers in the world to elementary school teachers, all have the chance to qualify for the U.S. Open through local qualifying tournaments. It’s called Golf’s Longest Day both because competitors play 36 holes with 18 in the morning and 18 in the afternoon but also because of the incredible stress of trying to get into a major championship.

Which LIV Golf Players Will Be At The U.S. Open

At the 2024 U.S. Open, LIV Golf will be heavily represented with 12 golfers in the field of 156. Of those 12, two of them qualified for Pinehurst on golf’s longest day.

South Africa’s Dean Burmester who shot 68-70 to finish -6 at the Bear’s Club in Jupiter, Florida and tie Daniel Berger for 2nd (behind Matt Kuchar at -7), and Spain’s David Puig who led the field with 68-64 for -12 at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, California (Bay Area). Puig earned medalist honors by leading the field at -12.

Those were the only 2 of the 17 LIV Golf players competing in golf’s longest day to qualify but many of the others came very, very close. Joaquin Niemann and Anirban Lahiri both finished -2 and missed the playoff in Jupiter, Florida by one shot. That field in Jupiter was STACKED.

Niemann’s U.S. Open qualification hopes were dashed on the 15th hole in his second round with a double bogey, a hole he had birdied in the morning round. That three shot swing and double bogey ultimately left him one shot out of the playoff and had he par’d the hole he would have been in.

To the north in Rockville, Maryland at Zimbabwe’s Kieran Vincent and Australia’s Lucas Herbert each finished 1-shot back. They both finished at -7 and missed out on one of the three qualifying spots available to that field.

Marc Lieshman of Australia was also in that Rockville field at Woodmont Country Club’s North Course and he had a brutal go of things. Lieshman led the field after the morning rounds had concluded, shooting a 64 which was the best score of the day. But Lieshman went out and shot a +3 score of 74 in the afternoon to finish at -4 and four strokes off qualification.

In Durham, former BroBible podcaster and current LIV Golf star Harold Varner III couldn’t ever get things going. He was +1 and four shots off one of the 7 qualifying spots there that went to Frankie Capan III, Brian Campbell, Sam Bennett, Chesson Hadley, Webb Simpson, Carter Jenkins, and Harry Higgs.
