The Lines To Ski At Whistler Looked Like Hell On Earth Last Weekend

Whistler is on the shortlist of the best skiing resorts in North America. The Whistler Blackbomb resort in British Columbia is well aware that they’ve got some of the best ski runs in the world and they charge accordingly, with single-day lift tickets costing up to $300, but that doesn’t dissuade anyone from going.

The lines to go skiing at Whistler last weekend were epically horrible. And I don’t use the word ‘epically’ lightly here. They were longer than any ski lines we’ve ever seen and long enough to turn some of us off from ever visiting Whistler again in our lives.

This video in particular has gone viral showing how long the grotesque ski lift lines are:

Another user who was there almost puts it into perspective. Now that you’ve watched that video above, let it sink in that from where this video is the wait time is 90 minutes. Realistically, that line above was what, 3 to 4 hours if this is 90 minutes. This clip also shows what awaits at the top:

I couldn’t imagine anything other than free Phish tickets to a concert of 500 people that would cause me to wait in a line like that. Furthermore, I cannot ever fathom paying hundreds of dollars to wait in that line just to ride down the mountain once or twice (at most) in a given day.

Skiing has always been one of the most expensive hobbies. It’s a sport for the elite. But those multi-hour lines at Whistler signal to me that something drastic needs to be done about the wait times.

If they’re already charging $300 in many instances for single-day lift passes, the difference between $300 and $500 isn’t all that much for someone willing to spend $300. The ‘Average Joe’ is already priced out at $300. Jack up the price to at least thin out the lines some.
