Will Ferrell has appeared in tons of scripted TV series over the years like The Office, Welcome to Sweden, Eastbound & Down, and others but he’s now set to star in his own scripted series for the first time and he’ll play a legendary golfer.

Netflix announced GOLF on Wednesday as a new series that will star Will Ferrell. It was co-created with Ramy Youssef (known for Ramy) and Josh Rabinowitz (known for Ramy and Broad City). And the show will be executive produced by Rian Johnson, the producer behind Knives Out, Glass Onion, Poker Face and more.

At first glance, we don’t know much. An ‘untitled golf project’ was attached to Will Ferrell’s IMDB page a while back but Netflix has officially given GOLF a name. On X (formerly Twitter), they announced the project by saying “Will Ferrell is starring in GOLF, his first ever scripted comedy series! Ferrell will play a fictional golf legend in the 10-episode comedy, which he co-created with Ramy Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz and is executive produced by Rian Johnson.”

Without much to go on, my hope is they take an Eastbound & Down direction here with elements of Caddy Shack peppered throughout. In a perfect world, I’d like to see Will Ferrell’s ‘fictional golf legend’ character be an American but he does play Europeans extremely well so I wouldn’t at all be surprised if he plays a Swedish golfer. Side note: have we ever heard Will Ferrell do an Australian accent? Could he pull off a Greg Norman type figure?

Golf fans are HYPED for Will Ferrell’s GOLF. Replies to Netflix’s announcement can basically be summarized by the phrase ‘shut up and take my money.’ There isn’t a single person in the replies who doesn’t seem excited for this.

Executive Producer Rian Johnson has proven his comedy chops. Netflix has crushed it with Full Swing. All signs indicate this is a winning squad they’ve assembled.
