A new report suggests that their departure stems from a bizarre incident in the locker room.
As the story goes, the high school football coach was attacked by a rogue parent. The events that transpired from that point forward led him to leave.
Why did Tim Dycus resign at Winter Springs?
The news of Tim Dycus’ resignation first broke over the weekend. His son also went with him.
Winter Spring High School is located in the wealthy Orlando suburb of Winter Springs, Florida. It enrolls approximately 2,100 students in Grades 9-12. The Bears compete in Class 4A, Region 2, District 6 of the Florida High School Athletic Association.
Dycus took the job in 2022. He went 12-32 during his tenure with the program including four-straight losses to begin 2026.
And then it came to a sudden end last week.
Tim Dycus stepped down as the head coach on Thursday. His son, offensive coordinator Walker Dycus, went with him. They were not fired. They both chose to resign for “personal reasons.”
Defensive coordinator Alford Green was named as the interim head coach. Athletic director Mike Bradley would not comment further on what happened.
It came as a surprise. Although Winter Springs was not winning, the coaching staff was not at risk of being let go during the season. The Bears have not finished with a winning record since 2013. They have not won more than six games since 2007.
Dycus was going to finish the 2026 season, at the very least. Something triggered the unexpected abdication.

According to Fired Coaches of Georgia, the resignation of Walker and Tim Dycus stemmed from an incident in the locker room.
“Sources tell us an altercation took place inside the Winter Springs locker room after a parent entered, HEADBUTTED the head coach, and shoved him through a table. The offensive coordinator — who is also the head coach’s son — stepped in and fought back to defend his father from further injury.”
Per those same sources, which include the Orlando Sentinel and two witnesses to the event, the school district wanted to suspend the younger Dycus for his role in the altercation. The administration was prepared to take the offensive coordinator away from the field.
Word supposedly made its way back to the Dycuses. They made the decision to resign together.
