WWE wrestler JD McDonagh will be sidelined for a while after suffering broken ribs and a punctured lung on Monday night’s WWE Raw after a springboard moonsault went dangerously wrong. He appeared to overshoot his backflip just a bit and his opponent (The War Raiders) wasn’t able to make the micro adjustment in time so Jhe flew backward and smacked his head right into an announcers table and then appeared to hit his ribs/lung on the corner of the table.
Frankly, given the fast-paced nature of WWE matches and how common moonsaults are it seems wild to me that injuries of this nature aren’t more common but it’s a great thing they aren’t because WWEwould run out of athletes. Footage of JD McDonagh’s injury on Monday night’s WWE Raw quickly went viral on social media.
Wrestling fans are having visceral reactions to JD’s moonsault gone wrong. Seeing him smack his head, break his ribs, and puncture his lungs is proving to be a lot for some wrestling fans to watch. Here it is in full speed, then in slow motion, and below that we have JD’s update:

After receiving imaging and medical treatment for his puncture lung and broken ribs, JD (real name Jordan Devlin) shared an update for his fans on X.
The former NXT Cruiserweight Champion wrote “First off, thanks to everyone for the messages and the concern. I’m good.” He went on to say “I’ve got a couple of broken ribs and a punctured lung, so I’m going to be out for a couple months. All things considered, it could have been a lot worse, so I’m grateful for that. See ya in a bit. 🤘🏻”
Broken ribs take *at least a month* to heal. It is a painful injury that requires sleeping in a recliner chair. Movements as simple as getting up from a chair after sitting are excruciating. So he has a painful few recovery weeks ahead of him and it will likely be a few months before he is able to return to the ring.
