Yao Ming is currently in France for the Olympics. The 43-year-old NBA legend is still very tall.
He dwarfs every other member of the Chinese women’s basketball coaching staff and dwards absolutely everybody on and off the court.
Ming, the No. 1 overall pick in 2002, played his entire NBA career with the Houston Rockets after five years with the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association. His average of 19 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game made him one of the best centers in basketball history.
Of course, a large part of Ming’s success stemmed from his massive frame. The eight-time All-Star and Naismith Hall of Famer is the second-tallest player in the NBA history at 7-foot-6. He weighs 310 pounds.
Ming is so large that he makes Shaq looks like a regular guy!
The same cannot be said for his Chinese counterparts.
Ming was unanimously elected as the president of the Chinese Basketball Association in 2017 and serves as something of a Jack of all trades with the organization. His primary role is as the logistical coordinator for the delegation. He also works with the men’s and women’s teams as an assistant coach.
China’s women’s team lost to Spain by one point in overtime on Sunday. Ming was on the bench as a primary assistant. The stark contrast in height was objectively hilarious.
He towers over the rest of China’s staff.

China didn’t announce that Yao Ming was going to be at the Olympics this summer so it was a delightful surprise for everybody involved. Who wouldn’t be thrilled to see one of the greatest to ever do it??
His absurdly large presence is an added bonus. His size provides tremendous entertainment!
