Yarden Garzon did not get drafted into the WNBA even though there are more teams than ever. A video posted less than 10 hours before the first overall pick was announced might’ve been a major deterrent.

Her running form did not do her any favors…

If a WNBA general manager was on the fence about Garzon prior to Monday, he or she might’ve been spooked by her awkward gait. The former Indiana and Maryland sharpshooter tanked her stock!

Who is Yarden Garzon?

Garzon was rated as a four-star prospect in the recruiting Class of 2022 out of Israel. She averaged 14.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game for Maccabi Ironi Ramat Gan and shot 43.8% from beyond the three-point line. The Ra’anana-native ultimately committed to Indiana.

Garzon started all 32 games for the Hoosiers as a true freshman, sophomore and junior. The 6-foot-3 guard set the school record for made three-pointers and became the 32nd member of the 1,000-point club. She accomplished both of those things in only three years.

It was an impressive run at Indiana. However, Yarden Garzon transferred to Maryland for the 2025-26 season and started every game for the Terrapins as a true senior.

She averaged 12.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 31.3 minutes per game over the course of her entire four-year career. Her 24-point performance against Washington was the highlight of her single-year stop at Maryland, where she finished with the fifth-most threes made in program history.

Garzon was invited to play in the Women’s College All-Star Game after this past season as well as the WNBA Draft Combine. Most people expected her to be drafted.

WNBA teams decided to pass.

Although Garzon was not in attendance at the WNBA Draft on Monday night, the analyst team at ESPN fully expected her name to be called at some point during the third round. The television broadcast even listed her as the “best available player” throughout the entire third round.

And yet… crickets.

Yarden Garzon, Reagan Beers, Hannah Stuelke, Maggie Doogan and Shay Ciezki all went undrafted. Garzon was perhaps the biggest surprise. Maybe Stuelke. I digress.

It is very possible that Garzon went undrafted because of a video she posted on Monday afternoon.

She was widely criticized for her running form just a few hours before the draft. It is very possible that GMs who had her in mind as a late-round flier decided to pass on the pick because of the video. Her awkward, rigid movement patters often limited her ability to get to open spots on the court while in college.

Her video from the gym might’ve confirmed all of the biggest concerns about her abilities. At the very least, I cannot imagine that it helped to boost her WNBA Draft stock.
