Bar Patrons Yell ‘Roll Tide,’ One Sucker Punches Former LSU QB Zach Mettenberger in the Face

Because SEC football will make even the most sane mind warp, LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger getting sucker punched by an Alabama fan over the weekend is not entirely surprising.

Steve Ford, owner of Losers Most Wanted Bar & Grill on Division Street, said Mettenberger did nothing to provoke another bar patron, but the 6-foot-5, 224-pound quarterback ended up getting punched in the face. He did not require medical attention.

“Here’s the truth: The guy said something about ‘Roll Tide!’ to Zach, and Zach turned around and said ‘Good luck with that,’ ” Ford said on Monday. “And the guy’s buddy then sucker-punched Zach.

Mettenberger, who was drafted by the Tennessee Titans, reportedly did not retaliate, which is a pretty nice thing to do after someone sucker punches you in the face. He’s a better man than all of us. And one with fine facial hair.

You know, as far as stupid things done immediately after yelling ROLL TIDE go, this barely cracks the top-100. Future scholars will study the phrase’s close ties with idiocy and be awed by their findings.

No report has been filed with authorities and Mettenberger does not intend to press charges.

So, I guess the lesson here is pick fights with 6-foot-5, 225 pound professional athletes because you’ll probably walk away no worse for the wear.
