Without Much Else To Disparage Him For, Right Wing Media Is Blaming The New York Mets Losing Streak On Mayor Zohran Mamdani

The New York Mets are on an 11-game losing streak, their worst since 2004, and without much else to criticize him for, right-wing media outlets such as Fox News, Outkick and Barstool Sports are pinning the barren run on New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Earlier this month, Mayor Mamdani, a New York Mets fan, attended a game at Citi Field and greeted mascots Mr. and Mrs. Met with a hug. Coincidentally, they haven’t won a game since. Since March 2025, a couple months after President Trump took office for the second time, the New York Mets’ record is below .500 at 89-92.

Without much else to slag Mamdani off for — in his first 100 days, he’s secured a $1.2 billion investment in universal child care including 2,000 new daycare seats in low-income neighborhoods, $34 million in repairs and settlements on behalf of tenants, and $9 million in restitution secured for workers and small businesses, filled 100,000 potholes, brought rat sightings down 30 percent, and melted 783 million pounds of snow — right wing media has decided to pin the Mets losing streak on him.

Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy also decided to hop on the narrative and either could not or would not properly pronounce Mamdani’s name despite being almost 50 years old.

Junior varsity Portnoy, Clay Travis, also made sure to draw a connection between the two. Travis has also failed to acknowledge that NYC recorded just 54 murders in the first quarter of 2026 — the fewest for any first quarter on record, down 28% from the same period last year — and that major crime is down 8% citywide, burglary is at a record low, and retail theft is down 25%. How about those cursed Mets, though!

The 7-15 mets will look to get back in the win column tonight when they host the Minnesota Twins at what will surely be a restless Citi Field.
