Magnetie
A few months ago, I decided to do a deep dive into the history of neckwear shortly after I spent way too much time trying to knot a tie before a wedding. I needed a scapegoat for my ineptitude and found one in the form of Louis XIII, who inadvertently launched a fashion revolution in the 1600s when he started rocking cravats to stunt on his subjects, many of whom would quickly follow suit.
Neckwear has come a long way since then, and while you’ll occasionally find one of those guys who thinks he can pull off an ascot, the necktie has become the equivalent of the rug in The Big Lebowski when it comes to tying an outfit together.
Over the past century or so, tie trends have come and gone. The thin ties every dude wears in a movie about NASA in the 1960s gave way to wide ones with gaudy patterns before skinny ties came back with a vengeance because time is a flat circle.
However, if you’re looking for the next big thing, you don’t have to look any further than The Magnetie, a recently-launched Kickstarter that’s aiming to turn the accessory game on its head.

Magnetie
The Magnetie, has a ton of features I didn’t know I needed in my life until now. I have plenty of ties that are made with 100% silk, but unless you’re a huge fan of paying for dry cleaning, you’ll be glad to know this one is covered in a coating designed to ward off stains.
It’s also unlike anything I’ve come across because it’s actually two ties in one—each reversible Magnetie features a couple of stylish patterns dreamed up by a former Nike designer that gives you a ton of versatility when you’re trying to figure out what to pair with your outfit.

If you’re wondering how they managed to pull off the reversible style, each Magnetie comes equipped with an invisible tie tack that makes those finicky loops on the back a thing of the past.
