Ron Lester, the actor that played Billy Bob in Varsity Blues, tragically passed away on Friday night at the tender age of 45-years-old. Lester’s Varsity Blues co-star, James Van Der Beek, paid a touching tribute to the lovable Ron on Twitter.

At his heaviest, Lester weighed over 500 pounds, but lost nearly 350 pounds after gastric bypass surgery. Lester had been hospitalized for about four months with a litany of health problems including issues with his liver, kidneys and heart. At approximately 9 p.m. on Friday with his fiancée by his side, Lester was taken off of life support and died in a hospice in Dallas.
