Pearl Jam recently released their first new music since 2020 and this week they were guests on The Howard Stern Show just days after the album release of ‘Dark Matter.’

One would think that Eddie Vedder and his bandmates would be keen on playing their new music on Howard’s show but Eddie instead asked Stern what he wanted to hear. Thinking about it for a moment, Howard Stern requested ‘Daughter’ after both parties had agreed that they’d never done requests like this before, as the host or guest.

Instead of diving right into ‘Daughter,’ Eddie Vedder talked about the origin of the song and how they started writing it in a bathroom and later on a tour bus. Vedder also talked about how the song was borne out of another Pearl Jam song ‘W.M.A.’ and explained the parallels there.

It’s amazing how you can hear Pearl Jam’s ‘Daughter’ a thousand times in your life and it’s still an incredible track. Also, they played a handful of other songs on The Howard Stern Show so it’s not as if they ignored the new music. ‘Yellow Ledbetter’ was probably my other favorite ‘old song’ they played on the appearance and it also came with story time:

As for Pearl Jam’s new album, Dark Matter, ‘Upper Hand’ and ‘Setting Sun’ are definitely standout tracks. ‘Scared of Fear’ is climbing up the charts (in my mind) as well. There’s been some criticism from diehard fans about the production of the album but the new music is overall pretty fantastic.
