Chris Magee calls Light Speed “the Ferrari of tins and the future of focus,” then, to his credit, immediately deflates it: “what it physically is is just a hard candy” with 100 milligrams of caffeine and 100 milligrams of L-theanine. His pitch for why those two numbers matter is that focus, broken all the way down, is really just “a relaxed awareness,” and this is the candy that gets you there. Underneath the swagger is a product called LSC100, and a founder who uses it like a convert.
The product pitch doubles as a case against your current routine. By his own account, Magee used to run on a heavy stack of stimulants, including five energy drinks a day (he was sponsored) and a steady rotation of Zyn, which came with cold sweats and, put delicately, “the boys crank up.”
Light Speed’s trick, according to Magee, is the 1:1 ratio: the caffeine wakes you up, the L-theanine keeps your heart from noticing. He calls the feeling “a quietness,” a strange thing to sell, because the missing jitters mean there’s no obvious sign it’s working until you look up at 6 p.m. and realize the day got done.

Light Speed pitches itself as the thing that kills your second coffee or your overpriced energy drink, and Magee treats it like dessert after lunch to get rid of the jittery afternoon crash. He takes it before going out so he can enter a room with energy he doesn’t have to apologize for.
Allegedly, Magee golfs on it. Magee had never broken 90 until this summer, when he shot an 85 and started calling the lozenge a PED. He handed one to a buddy mid-scramble and the guy chipped in. He’s dosed eleven friends and gotten roughly the same text back from all of them, some version of I need more. His desk, he says, is a graveyard of empty tins.
The candy melts under your tongue and hits in about five minutes with no water required, where a regular coffee needs 30 to 45 to get going. It comes in Cold Brew or Fresh Mint, swaps synthetic caffeine for green coffee extract, green-tea L-theanine, and a little MCT oil, and is vegan, non-GMO, and made in the USA under GMP standards with every batch tested for purity. Dosing scales to your tolerance: one lozenge runs about a cup of coffee, a Red Bull is a dose and a half, a Celsius is two, and you cap out at four a day. A three-pack runs $23.98; subscriptions push it toward 42 cents a dose. Magee’s framing is that you get ten hits for five bucks while the rest of us hand Starbucks eight dollars for a cold brew.
The way Magee ended up here runs on luck he refuses to call coincidence. He didn’t build the thing. Back at CU-Boulder he’d worked for the guy who’s now one of its founders, broken some records, run his own social business on the side, and moved on, never clocking that his old boss was quietly keeping tabs. Months later Magee is in Aspen for Palm Tree Festival, spots him in the crowd, and walks over to reintroduce himself. Before he can get his name out, the guy beats him to it: “Chris, happy birthday.” (It was.) A mention of the product, an offer to send samples, and here’s where a normal person says thanks and waits.
Magee is not that person. A self-described college kid with ADHD and a “slave to the options available,” he tried it and saw a limitless pill. So he spent three weeks building an entire company around a sample nobody asked him to build a company around. He got on a call to give his review and instead pitched him the whole dream.
The response: “Chris, this is not at all what I asked for.” Then came an introduction to the rest of the team, and Magee was in. His read on his own contribution manages to be modest and cocky at the same time: “If it was a hamburger, I came up with the cheese.”
He’ll happily quote the stimulant market at north of $10 billion, but the thing he keeps circling back to is the reviews, good or bad, so he can keep tuning the product. “We really want to change the game,” he says, and for once the founder-speak is doing less work than the candy.
