TIME IS A FLAT CIRCLE: Matthew McConaughey Wants To Return To ‘True Detective’ For Season 3!

The first season of HBO’s True Detective is one of my all-time favorite Sunday night appointment television experiences. It had it all: The existential dilemmas and rants of Rust Cohle, the philandering of Marty Hart, an evil “spaghetti monster” , Alexandra Daddario’s boobs in all their glory.

Then the show recruited Vince Vaughn for the second season and totally shit the bed in terms of expectations.

Now there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. On Friday Matthew McConaughey swung by the The Rich Eisen Show to chat it up about Texas football. They got on the subject of his iconic gumshoe character, which McConaughey said he’s wants to revive:

“You essentially said you wanted to play Rust Cohle when you saw the script,” Eisen said. “You were originally going to go for the part of Marty (Woody Harrelson’s character) and then you were like, ‘This guy Rustin Cohle really speaks to me’.”

“Can’t wait to hear what comes out of his mouth,” agreed McConaughey, who played the troubled detective on the acclaimed first season of the hit HBO show.

“I hear that all the time now,” said McConaughey. “‘You said you were going to do season 3. When is it coming?’” He went on to add that the “ball’s not advanced at all. I’ve talked to the creator Nic Pizzolatto who’s taking a little break from it.”

Time is a flat circle, alright alright alright.
