Eminem’s Mother’s Day Music Video Will Break Your Heart

This just hit me right in the feels this Mother’s Day. Marshall Mathers isn’t known for having the greatest relationship with his mother. A social worker even once described her as having a “very suspicious, almost paranoid personality.” The rollercoaster mother-son relationship has lead to a litany of lyrical attacks from Eminem in his music over the years.

Knowing that backstory is what makes Spike Lee’s  music video for Eminem’s “Headlights” just so damn special. He apologizes to his mother for how things have played out:

Cause to this day we remain estranged and I hate it though
Cause you ain’t even get to witness your grandbabies grow
But I’m sorry momma for “Cleaning Out My Closet,” at the time I was angry
Rightfully, maybe so, never meant that far to take it though
Cause, now I know it’s not your fault and I’m not making jokes
That song I’ll no longer play at shows and I cringe every time it’s on the radio

Give it a listen and tell me it doesn’t make you choke up a little bit.
