This Mesmerizing 12K Video Of A New York City Flyover Is A Cinematic Masterpiece

12K video New York flyover

Visit New York City without ever leaving your couch by watching this jaw-dropping video of Gotham by aerial cinematographer Phil Holland. While most are happy with the crispness of a 4K video, Holland skipped filming in 8K and went all the way to 12K resolution despite there not even being a television even capable of broadcasting in 12K.

The mesmerizing flyover video of New York City was executed with some serious equipment. Holland rigged a Shootover K1 Hammerhead 6-axis gyro stabilized gimbal on a helicopter to ensure steady shots. He attached three RED Monstro 8K VistaVision cameras with Tokina’s low-light 35mm T1.5 lenses to capture a beautiful panoramic footage.

The videos were meshed together to create a 12K by 8K footage, which is 48.5 times the resolution of HD 1080p. The incredible 48fps film is so detail-filled that each frame is equivalent to 100 megapixels with a sensor size of approximately 645 Medium Format Film.

Holland worked with Gotham Film Works to show all the electric beauty of NYC in this extremely high-resolution video. There is so much stunning detail in every shot that you can almost see the weird guy in the Elmo suit harassing tourists in Times Square. Don’t forget to jack up those video quality levels to the max and cast this spectacular footage to your big screen TV to properly enjoy this cinematic masterpiece.
