A thrifty TikTok user has gone viral after claiming to find some luxury pens in Goodwill that are worth $5,000.
Goodwill can be a treasure trove of unlikely gems. For this TikToker, these gems were, to put it simply, of the pen variety.
In the video, which has garnered 2.1 million views, TikTok user @treasuretrovefitsnfinds filmed herself picking up a plastic bag full of premium-looking pens off the Goodwill shelf. The bundle was priced at $5, according to a sticker.
As she picks up the bag, on-screen text says, “Casually picking up over $5K for $5.”
A second lot of text added that this was “someone’s rich uncle’s entire collection.” She then went on to claim that just one of these pens “comps at $2,700 USED.” An eBay screenshot then flashed on-screen, which appeared to show an OMAS-branded pen fetching for that price.
However, it should be noted that, visually, the pen the TikToker highlighted is actually more visually similar to a Delta DV Original pen, which fetches for $260 on Goulet Pens.
BroBible reached out to the TikToker and Goodwill via Instagram direct message and email, respectively.
Not Everyone Thought It Was A Score
In the comments, some users were excited.
“Mont Blanc pen, d— your lucky,” one wrote.
“Why can’t I ever find a deal like that?” a second asked.
Then a third said, “Oh d—, that’s a find of a lifetime right there.”
However, others were skeptical of the TikToker’s comparison method.
“I immediately dismiss anyone who posts listings instead of SOLD comps,” a fourth said.
While a fifth similarly claimed, “Asking prices aren’t comps.”
Elsewhere, a sixth commenter said that “NOBODY is buying those,” while a further commenter wrote, “What makes you think that’s 5K? It’s just pens, not gold.”
In response to this, the TikToker made a follow-up video.
In this video, they held up the pen to the camera and zoomed in on the inscriptions both on a ring around the pen and on the pen nib itself. Both read “Waterman,” which is a luxury pen brand. They followed this up with a GIF that included a meme that said, “You sure about that?”
On Atlas Stationers, Waterman pens range from almost $100 to over $500.
Goodwill Shopper Finds Premier Golf Clubs In Store
Goodwill steals often go viral on TikTok. Back in July, TikTok user Caroline Ecker (@carolineecker) and her husband shared the hidden gems they discovered on what looked like a regular bag of golf clubs at Goodwill.
The TikTok begins with footage Ecker sent her husband. In the video, she is touching the golf clubs and says, “Kyle, does this interest you at all?”
Simultaneously, on-screen text reads, “When you send your husband a video from the thrift store asking if he wants these golf clubs.”
Then, a second lot of text flashes on screen, reading: “And he calls you immediately freaking out. Anyone know why?”
She then zoomed in on the bag, focusing on the $19.99 price tag and the Scotty Cameron-branded club.
For those not in the know, Scotty Cameron golf clubs are a brand of designer clubs that often go for $300-$500 on eBay. As the husband himself later said in the video, he found all of this “pretty freaking exciting.”
“This is gonna take my putting game to a whole ‘nother level,” he said happily.
