Despite the fact that Marvel Studios has never officially confirmed his involvement in the film, earlier this week it was reported that Nope and Minari star Steven Yeun had dropped out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thunderbolts, which would’ve seen him debut as the superhero Sentry.

Now, with the role needing to be filled following the departure of the Academy Award-nominated Yeun — who you might remember first seeing as Glen on The Walking Dead — Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are calling for Reacher and Fast X star Alan Ritchson to take on the part.

“I love Steven Yeun, but genuinely don’t feel like he’d be a good fit for Sentry. It should be Alan Ritchson. Literally the perfect fit for such a pivotal character,” said one Twitter user.

“More insiders are confirming the report that Steven Yeun will no longer be playing Sentry in the MCU…I’m hoping the MCU saw that Alan Ritchson wants to be in another comic book movie and will ‘Reach’ out to him,” quipped another.

Ritchson’s name seems to be on the forefront of the minds of comic book movie fans these days as the 41-year-old former Blue Mountain State scene-stealer has also been getting shouts to be cast as Batman in James Gunn’s fledgling DCU franchise. Ritchson was even asked about those Batman fan-castings and wisely expressed interest in the part.

“With all the rumors flying that I’m supposed to be playing Batman, how can I knock Batman? I would love to play Batman,” Ritchson politically said in an interview with Fortress of Solitude.

Thunderbolts, which was originally set to hit theaters in the summer of 2024, was recently delayed to 2025 due to both the delays caused by the actors’ strike and the general instability around the franchise following some box office bombs and the Jonathan Major trial/firing.

Currently dated for July 25, 2025, and set to be directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts stars Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Harrison Ford, Ayo Edebiri, Olga Kurylenko, and more.
