Alberta is frequently referred to as the “Texas of Canada” due to the cultural similarities it shares with The Lone Star State. However, one guy recently decided to channel his inner Florida Man in the province with a bold stunt that involved launching his boat off a waterfall, which quickly attracted the attention of authorities after the video of his feat went viral.

Many Americans think of Canada as a fairly homogenous country filled with overly apologetic citizens who say “about” in a funny way. However, that doesn’t really paint an accurate picture of a place comprised of the provinces and territories that have some pretty well-defined cultures that set them apart from other regions.

That includes rural areas that revolve around industries like oil, gas, cattle, and agriculture that boast plenty of people who would feel right at home if they were transported to a part of America known for having a sizable population of residents who proudly embrace the term “redneck “and the culture it’s associated with.

I think it’s safe to assume that’s the case with one man who’s managed to become a minor celebrity by driving his boat off waterfalls in the western part of the country, and he caught the attention of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police thanks to his most recent feat.

Authorities are looking into a video of a man who drove a boat off Lundbreck Falls in Alberta, Canada

The daredevil in question is named Dusty Friesen, who goes by the name “dustydoeser” on the social media accounts where he uploads videos of the various aquatic stunts he’s managed to pull off while piloting the motorboat he’s dubbed “Dent.”

Friesen, who resides in British Columbia, has spent the past year chronicling his various exploits, which primarily revolve around driving to waterfalls located across Canada and launching Dent (and the occasional snowmobile) up and off of them.

His most recent excursion took him to Lundbreck Falls in Alberta, where he filmed a video of himself depositing Dent into the Crowsnest River ahead of his attempt to clear the water feature that boasts an approximately 40-foot drop.

Dusty managed to do exactly that, as a number of spectators were on hand to capture a video of him going full send over the waterfall before driving away.

According to The Daily Hive, the jump, which was executed on Monday, May 25th, has drawn the scrutiny of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, with a spokesperson saying they “are looking into the matter in partnership with conservation officers.”

The Alberta Parks page for Lundbreck Falls does not explicitly address motorboats, but it notes canoeing in the vicinity is “not recommended.” In 2010, a kayaker died after purposefully paddling off of them, and in 2020, a teenager was seriously injured after falling to the bottom.
