If nothing else, one would expect an Amazon delivery driver to give you things, not take them away. However, one customer was left baffled after catching an Amazon employee seemingly trying to take their dog from their backyard.
The customer caught this interaction on their Ring doorbell. Accompanied by the viral “and the saxophones got louder” sound, the footage showed the Amazon driver approaching the dog, picking up its leash, and walking away with it.
In the now-removed video’s description, TikTok user Kayla (@kaaylaab1) added: “The story just kept getting weirder.” The footage garnered 4.5 million views on the app.
BroBible reached out to Kayla via TikTok direct message.
What Actually Happened?
In subsequent follow-up videos, Kayla shared some more context. In response to one commenter, who wrote, “[The dog] too… friendly,” the TikToker shared footage of the Amazon worker in her yard interacting with her cat.
“Girl my cat is too!” Kayla added in the video description. “And the Amazon worker just touching all my pets I’m thinking she went to go get my dog from the back ATP.”
Kayla then shared a second follow-up with more Ring footage. In this video, the woman can be seen encouraging the dog to approach her before going to lead the dog away.
What Did People Say About The Amazon Driver?
For the most part, commenters weren’t on Kayla’s side, with many calling her out for apparently leaving her dog outside unattended. It’s arguable that in the eyes of the commenters, if you leave them outside unattended, you’re not ready to own a dog.
“Busy street, no fence, no owner in site… this was a rescue,” one commenter wrote. Good on her.”
“I’m sure that dog needed a better home anyway!” a second added. “I’m with Amazon in this one.”
While a third asked, “Why is it outside unsupervised and unrestrained?”
“You thought we were going to agree with you,” a fourth chimed in, adding three laughing emojis.
Despite this, some commenters jumped to Kaya’s defense, too. ”To the ppl saying ‘it was outside,’ drop your address and Ima come take everything you have outside. I don’t care if it’s a flower pot—it was outside,” one said.
Was The Amazon Employee Trying To Help?
The TikToker made a third follow-up video, now deleted, in response to a commenter who said the Amazon worker was trying to help. Kayla admits she’s not sure about that, noting that they must’ve known the dog lived here because there was a dog bowl on the porch. As well as this, she said there was an “identical” dog tied up too, which indicates she owns dogs. She then questioned why the driver didn’t ring the doorbell if she wanted to find the owner.
Instead, Kayla claims that the Amazon worker gave the dog to a random person around the corner. She added that the delivery person “didn’t take the proper precautions,” and questioned what would have happened if that random person wanted to keep the dog.
In addition to this, Kayla noted that the employee didn’t call the police or shelter. Instead, she walked quickly off the porch. Moreover, she pointed out that the dog didn’t come when she called. She claimed that this suggests that the dog didn’t want to go.
Contrary to some commenters’ belief, Kayla also highlighted that this was the back porch, not the front. To her, this begs the question of why the delivery person was in the backyard in the first place.
“Y’all not making sense, and y’all don’t know the story, and y’all are drumming up scenarios in your head,” she said.
What Happened Next?
In a final follow-up that has since been removed, Kayla responded to a comment asking for an update.
She said the intentions didn’t matter because the Amazon delivery person was wrong.
She also clarified that she has the dog back. But bizarrely, the man the delivery person gave the dog to doesn’t live near her. He told her that the delivery person asked him if it was his dog.
However, Kayla points out that this doesn’t make sense because the Amazon worker didn’t knock on the door or ring the doorbell. In fact, the delivery person went and knocked on the door and rang the doorbell of the man around the corner but not hers.
An Amazon spokesperson said via an emailed statement to BroBible: “We’re looking into it, but glad the dog remained safe and has been returned home according to the original poster.”
A Strange Situation
Kayla later described the whole situation as “very weird and strange.”
“Why would she give my dog to a random person?” she asked. ” Why would she not take any of the proper precautions? It makes no sense.”
According to the TikToker, other commenters described dogs as family.
Calling their bluff, she added, “OK, if somebody stole your kid off your porch. Would you not look into it? Would you not suspect malicious intent at all? Like c’mon now, y’all don’t make any sense.”
She later hammered the point home, explaining, “The person that she gave [the dog] to gave it back to us. How he knew the dog lived here we still don’t know that’s a mystery as well. Everything about the story is strange. And […] ya’ll supposed to think that were supposed to believe that this women had no malicious intent and we’re not supposed to look into that at all?”
Should You Put Your Dog Away If You Order From Amazon?
There is one way all of this could have perhaps been avoided.
As BroBible previously reported, an Amazon driver previously caught attention on TikTok after recommending that customers put their dogs inside if they’re expecting a delivery.
In the video, which garnered over 56,000 views, the worker said, “Hey, if you have a package and you know it’s on the way, I’m just throwing this out there. Here’s an idea: Put your dog up.”
Obviously, in this context, he isn’t saying this on the off-chance a delivery driver goes walkabout with your pet. He is actually referring to the recurring issue of dogs sometimes attacking Amazon drivers.
In 2022, for example, one Missouri delivery driver was attacked by two unsupervised dogs. This led to the dogs being shot by police.
Ultimately, it seems like it’s better for everyone if dogs aren’t around when Amazon is delivering orders.
