Woman Flies American Airlines From Virginia To Milan For Her Wedding. Then They Lose Her Luggage: ‘We Have Nothing’

A traveler called out American Airlines after she was left with no luggage on her wedding day. All she had left was her wedding dress.

Wedding season can be a stressful time, but the bride-to-be didn’t expect something this awful to happen.

In the viral video, which has garnered 88,900 views, the TikToker (@itsomunique) began by explaining that she flew from DCA to Milan to Lake Como to elope. She and her fiancé had a layover in Philadelphia, but their luggage never made it Milan. She says she got a message about the delay and was initially told it would arrive at 10am on wedding day.

In turn, American Airlines, she says, took her luggage to a company she claims isn’t reputable. The company is ONC Express, and she notes it doesn’t even seem to have a phone number.

The TikToker adds that she had AirTags on her luggage and that she and her fiancé could see that they took luggage from MXP to another airport instead of directly at them.

While they explained it was their wedding day with a 3pm wedding time, it was already 3:06, and nothing had arrived. This included no makeup, no flat irons—nothing.

Things Get Worse

She claims she was initially told they would have the luggage at 1pm. Then, she says they gave her a new time of before 3pm. Then, 3pm came around, and nothing showed up.

The TikToker then notes how the luggage was 1 hour away when it wasn’t even 1 hour away initially.

When she tried to call the ONC Express number on the document, she says it didn’t work. The same happened when she texted the company. She says the company would only WhatsApp.

However, she says saw from WhatsApp that they weren’t bringing luggage to them.

“I’m calmed down now,” she says. “I just talked to somebody that brought nothing but God into this conversation ’cause only he right now can keep me calm. But American Airlines have ruined our wedding.”

The TikToker then went on to list all the things she paid for, including a car, photographer, videographer, and a drone. Because they have “nothing,” not even a change of clothes, they cannot leave the hotel.

She adds that they made her check one of her carry-ons because of a lack of space in the overhead lockers.

The WhatsApp Messages

In a follow-up TikTok, she shares WhatsApp screenshots from her conversation with the company. At 12:52, she asked the staff member when they’d be arriving. They said “now” and that they’d check with the driver for an update.

In response, the TikToker asked for them to let her know as soon as possible. The worker replied, “OR.” She then tried to call, but nobody picked up. The person then said, “I’m letting you know now.” That was the last she heard from them.

She tried to call at 1:06pm and 2:10pm. As she increasingly panicked, she asked why the luggage was in another airport when they know she needs to get ready for her wedding. The last message is her typing, “Hello?!”

She Issued A Final Update

In a third TikTok, she tries to look on the bright side, explaining that she was going to dinner with her fiancé. She then shares more context. She was originally meant to fly Delta but ended up with American Airlines, which she said wouldn’t have been her choice. After her other carry-on was taken away, all she had in her remaining carry-on was her wedding dress. The other carry-on has stuff for the groom, too.

As soon as they landed at MXP, the TikToker says she filed a claim for lost and found. She and her fiancé then went out to Milan and bought everything they could before they missed the last train for the island they are to be married on. However, they weren’t able to buy multiple items, and she says she didn’t have anything “presentable” for the elopement.

The TikToker adds that they’d reconvene to tomorrow. However, they don’t have most of things they had scheduled for the wedding day.

Commenters suggested she should just show up as is, but the TikToker said she invested a lot of money in this wedding and wanted things like her hair flat-iron, shoes, makeup, and Spanx. She then reiterated that it wasn’t her fault and, in a silver lining, finally got her luggage.

The Importance Of Carry-Ons

Some commenters were sympathetic. “I’d say get married still and when you get back to the states take pics and videos,” one wrote.

“Still get married,” a second concurred. “It’s going to be a beautiful wedding.”

“Control what you can and let go of what you can’t,” a third said. “There’s strength in the pivot. Make the best of what you can and have a blast.”

Others asserted the importance of carry-ons.

“This is why EVERYTHING is a carry-on,” a fourth added. “I don’t play about my stuff. Things that couldn’t fit would be purchased at the destination. Wishing you the best girl.”

“When it’s an important trip or vacay,  I never check my bags and I mean never!” a fifth explained.

Has This Happened Before?

Over on Reddit, there are similar scenarios. One U.K.-based  user shared how they flew to Emirates for a destination wedding, and their checked bag didn’t arrive. “On the morning of the wedding we had no outfits or makeup, so we spent those few hours racing around unfamiliar shops buying whatever we could find. It was chaotic, eye-wateringly expensive, and pretty devastating,” they wrote.

“We filed the baggage report at the airport and contacted Emirates immediately. They asked for receipts and reminded us we should’ve kept ‘important items’ in our carry-on. We then itemized everything: the wedding items stuck in the delayed bags that we couldn’t use, plus the emergency purchases we made on the day. The total is about £6,200. Emirates has offered $50 per passenger per day (so $100 total / ~£74) and told us to claim the rest on our travel insurance. They’ll issue a delay certificate if needed,” they added.

In turn, the Redditor said they were seeking compensation for emotional distress. But others didn’t rate their chances.

“I sincerely doubt you can get anything for something like this,” one said. “While it’s an awful situation – I think you will have a hard time getting compensation. Getting a representative and the time investment will run you a lot . This is exactly what wedding insurance is designed for if you have that, failing that travel insurance. Sorry again for what happened , but if you are going to pursue this – Prepare for an uphill battle.”

Similarly, a second said, “Compensation for delayed baggage is typically limited to essentials. Could you argue that a wedding dress and some makeup were essentials for you? Maybe. Can you argue that “buying whatever we could find. It was chaotic, eye-wateringly expensive” was essential? I very much doubt it. Likely this could end with you getting more than £74 but way less than six grand.”
