One of the biggest “what ifs” of the comic book movie era is what if Sam Raimi had gotten to make his fourth Spider-Man movie, which is something that fans still ask for today, 20+ years after the franchise debuted.

As legend has it, Spider-Man 4 would have featured John Malkovich as Vulture as the main villain. Furthermore, concept art that was released in 2016 revealed that the film also would’ve included the likes of Mysterio, the Shocker, the Prowler, and the Rhino in smaller roles.

There’s also the casting of Anne Hathaway, who “got the part” of Felicia Hardy/Black Cat. as she confirmed in a recent interview on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast.

“[I] did not get into costume and did not read a script past the audition slides… I got the part and, yeah, it just… I think that’s probably more the producers’ story to tell than mine should they ever decide to tell it,” Hathaway explained.

“Because the Spider-Man Universe has gone on to be so enormous and so thrilling. It’s just reinventing itself and all of those things so I wouldn’t want to make more of it than is necessary.”

The 41-year-old Academy Award-winning actress also touched on the sliding doors aspect of the role and wondered if it would’ve prevented her from playing Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.

“If that had gotten made, I don’t know if I would’ve been considered for ‘Dark Knight Rises’. Perhaps Christopher Nolan would’ve said, ‘No, she’s occupied in another universe.'”

While Raimi never got to make Spider-Man 4, he did get back into the comic book movie business with the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022. Some rumors also indicate that Marvel Studios is eyeing him to take over directing duties on Avengers: Secret Wars.

As for Hathaway, she’s doing the press rounds to promote the release of her new film Eileen, which was released in theaters back on December 1. You can check out her full Happy, Sad, Confused interview below.
