Earlier this week, we brought you the story of embattled Marvel Cinematic Universe star Jonathan Majors scoring a key win in his ongoing domestic violence case in New York City.

Perhaps coincidentally, a fellow MCU star is speaking out about Majors’ situation for the first time and is standing by him. And it’s not just a supporting character actor, either — it’s newly-minted Captain America Anthony Mackie.

“We’re a country that was built on ‘everyone is innocent until proven guilty.’ That’s one of the staples of this country. Nothing has been proven about this dude. Nothing,” Mackie said in a recent interview with Inverse.

“So everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That’s all I can say. It’s crazy where we are as a society. But as a country, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.”

The aforementioned legal win that Majors scored comes from the fact that two separate NYPD precincts that have been investigating the incident found probable cause to arrest Majors’ accuser Grace Jabbari for allegedly slapping, scratching, and grabbing at Majors’ face in a “drunk and hysterical” fit on the night she accused him of assaulting her.

Both Mackie and Majors have key roles in both the immediate and long-term future of the MCU. Mackie, who has taken over the mantle of Captain America, will be headlining his first-ever MCU film when Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters next year. Given his status as Captain America, he’ll also likely be in the two upcoming Avengers movies that are due out in 2025 and 2026.

As for Majors, he’s been positioned as the next “big bad” of the franchise, as Kang the Conqueror was introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania earlier this year. In addition to the Ant-Man sequel, Majors is set to feature as the character in season two of the Disney+ series Loki, due out later this year, and in 2025’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

At this time, Majors is scheduled to begin trial on August 3.
