The Queen’s Gambit and Super Mario Bros. Movie star Anya Taylor-Joy was spotted on the picket lines in Los Angeles earlier this week as the actors’ strike rages on.
The 27-year-old Taylor-Joy could be seen wearing a black SAG-AFTRA (the actors’ union) t-shirt and a black cap that simply says “Daddy” on it. She was also toting a caution-tape-themed picket sign.

Taylor-Joy is just one of many A-listers to lend their time to the strike, which is more about working character actors getting fair pay than it is about movie stars.
While the actors’ strike remains at a standstill, reports indicate that the AMPTP is set to meet with the WGA (writers’ union) on Wednesday, September 20 in hopes of bringing the strike to an end.
The writers’ strike has been going on all summer, having begun in May, while the actors began striking in mid-July.
After exploding onto the scene in recent years thanks to her performance in projects such as Split, Glass, The Queen’s Gambit, Emma, Last Night in Soho, The Northman, The Menu, and Amsterdam, Taylor-Joy had just one role in 2023: voicing Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Next year will see Taylor-Joy star in the biggest project of her career as she’s taking over the role of Imperator Furiosa, originally played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road, in George Miller’s upcoming action epic Furiosa.
She’s also set to star alongside Miles Teller in The Forge by Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson, which does not have an official release date at this time and is attached to the project Laughter in the Dark, which will be directed by her Queen’s Gambit collaborator Scott Frank.
Given the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie — it’s the second-highest-grossing movie of the year behind Barbie — she’ll surely be reprising her role of Peach in an eventual sequel, too.
