SDCC 2018: First ‘Aquaman’ Trailer Is Action-Packed With Weaponized Sharks (Sadly No Frickin Laser Beams)

The first official trailer for Aquaman is here! The trailer for the aquatic comic book movie debuted at the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con and it has a ton of shit going on! Especially plenty of angry, weaponized sharks that are like underwater assault vehicles. The only problem is that none of the sharks have frickin’ laser beams attached to their heads. Do better James Wan, you’ve deeply disappointed Dr. Evil.

During the Warner Bros. panel at SDCC 2018, Jason Momoa was front and center as we get our first video of Aquaman and his human form of Arthur Curry, who was a real treat to take to the aquarium as a child. “My father was a lighthouse keeper. My mother was a queen. But life has a way of bringing people together,” Curry says to provide a nice origin story. “They made me what I am.”

Aquaman also stars Nicole Kidman as his mother Queen Atlanna and Patrick Wilson as his half-brother Orm AKA Ocean Master. Amber Heard is Mera, Willem Dafoe is Vulko, Dolph Lundgren is Nereus, King of the Atlantean tribe Xebel; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is Black Manta.

“From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas,” the synopsis says. “The film, starring Jason Momoa in the title role, reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime — one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.”

“I wanted our film to be more unique. So my movie plays more like a science fiction fantasy film than a traditional superhero movie,” Wan said before the trailer was debuted at SDCC. Aquaman splashes into theaters on December 21, 2018
