Chels (@thechelsshift) claims that Ashely Furniture refused to authorize her $6,000 bedroom set return. She says the company ghosted her.
Modeling and designing your home is typically an exciting investment. The freedom to design your home and bedrooms in whatever way you wish is liberating. One couple decided it was time to upgrade their bedroom, but they say their experience with Ashley Furniture was anything but joyful.
In a TikTok with over 254,600 views, Chels (@thechelsshift) claims that Ashely Furniture refused to authorize her $6,000 bedroom set return. She also says the company ghosted her.
“If you want to hear about the Ashley Furniture experience from h—, please stay tuned. Also, I’m asking anybody that sees this video to please repost it and share it. I need as much attention to this as I possibly can get,” Chels begins.
With a notebook in hand, Chels begins sharing the series of events that she says took place. Chels and her husband have worked hard saving up for a new bedroom set, she says. She says they went to Ashley Furniture and found the bedset of their dreams and selected a Tempur-Pedic mattress. Chels says they were told the items would take a month to deliver.
Ashley Furniture Delivery: What Went Wrong?
The delivery day eventually came around—only for the experience to completely go south, per Chels. Chels shares that one of the delivery guys bled on the furniture and trauma-dumped about his relationship simultaneously. Chels says while she was bothered by the blood and the unsolicited trauma dump, she was willing to look past both, as she was excited to sleep in her new bed.
However, the bed wan’t comfortable and felt different from the one they tried at Ashley Furniture, she says.
“It was like sleeping outside on a concrete slab. I honestly think a concrete slab would have slept better than that mattress did,” Chels says.
She says her husband contacted Ashley Furniture three separate times, and nobody was able to provide any details about a refund or return. So, she says they decided to go Labor Day weekend, knowing the manager would be in the store. Although the manager informed the couple that there was nothing that they could do, according to Chels. She says she and her husband asked for prints out of the paperwork and a customer service number.
“’There is, but unfortunately it’ll just route you back to me,’” she recalls the manager telling them.
The couple returned home defeated, she says, but still willing to fight. She says they called back the manager that night to see if any exceptions could be made.
“’We spent $6,000 on this mattress. $6,000 on this mattress. I’m a new mom. I can’t get any sleep. Please do something about this,’” Chels says she pleaded.
Can You Return Tempur-Pedic Mattresses At Ashley Furniture?
The manager once again declined the request and relayed that this is a Tempur-Pedic policy problem, she claims.
So Chels says she got into contact with Tempur-Pedic. She says a Tempur-Pedic representative told her there is a 90-day return policy on its mattresses and claimed this is an issue with Ashley Furniture.
Chels says she finally got in touch with Ashley Furniture corporate, and they agreed to a return. The return was scheduled, and the mattress was picked up, Chels says. She says she was told it’ll take five to seven business days for the refund to process. However, a refund was never issued, she says.
Chels called corporate back, and she says a new representative told her it would take three to five months for the refund.
She vents that they are an “average American family” and spent months saving that $6,000.
Chels says the representative told the couple he would get back to them later that day. But he didn’t, according to Chels.
“Big corporations like this are taking advantage of all the American families that they can, and I honestly feel like this is their policy. This is how they get their money,” she shares.
In a last-ditch effort, Chels asks social media to contact Ashley Furniture to help her out.
“We are an average American family trying to make it in this world. This big corporation is absolutely robbing us,” she concludes.
What Should The Ashley Furniture Customer Do Next?
Viewers in the comment section also believe Ashley Furniture shouldn’t be trusted.
“What I’ve learned from TikTok and people I work with: never buy from #ashleyfurniture,” one TikTok commenter wrote.
“It didn’t take them 3-5 months to take the 6k from you! That’s wild!” another added.
Other viewers suggested getting the Better Business Bureau (BBB) involved and submitting a chargeback with her bank.
“Two things. 1, fill out a chargeback with your bank. 2, file a BBB claim. the only way I got my money back on a Samsung washer that broke after 30 days was going through the BBB,” another suggested.
“I used to work in a chargebacks dept. Please do a chargeback with your bank. You will win the dispute because they picked the mattress up. They are telling you 3-5 months because they know most banks won’t do a dispute after 120-days leaving you with no options. Chargebacks also ding the company with their bank & payment processor plus the fees they will have to pay for the chargeback. It is the best consequence to give to these scamming corporations,” one explained.
‘The Power Of TikTok’
Chels provided an update with pure excitement.
“Ashley Furniture just called me and let me know that a refund has been issued. We checked our account. It is in our account,” she shares.
Chels is in disbelief and shares nothing but gratitude for all the support.
“The power of TikTok is absolutely wild. You guys pulled through for me. Everyone tagging, everybody calling. Y’all are amazing. I really cannot thank my TikTok family enough,” Chels says.
When Can You Dispute A Charge?
Dealing with a corporation on your own can be complicated, as Chels found out. Luckily, your credit card banking institution has a dedicated department specifically to help you out in scenarios like this. Banks can be deployed to fight for your cause as a perk of being a customer.
A credit card dispute can take place when an unauthorized transaction occurs, billing errors, or an unresolved customer complaint, NerdWallet reports.
Disputes can occur when the business goes unresponsive or doesn’t resolve the issue with the customer directly. In this process, banks will contact the payment processor of the business to verify if the charge request is legit.
To submit a dispute, it’s best to call and inform your credit card company right away. Each bank will have their own dispute process, but all relevant information should be gathered. One of the major perks of credit cards is this consumer protection program, so it’s best to put them to work if companies ghost you about refunds.
