A Kohl's customer says the chain has been double charging customers. Here's how you can get your money back.

A woman is issuing a warning about buying from Kohl’s. According to this shopper, a single purchase has resulted in her being charged twice—and she’s not alone.

Kohl’s is a popular chain of department stores. While customers enjoy the chain for its deals and wide array of offerings, a problem has emerged that is causing some loyal fans to question their relationship with the store.

What is this issue? Simply put, some people are being charged multiple times for the same purchase.

What’s Going On With Kohl’s?

In a video with over 1 million views, TikTok user Julie (@teacherspecial) shares a particular issue with Kohl’s.

“If you’ve bought anything from Kohl’s in the last month or so, I want you to go and check whatever payment you used, because they’re having some kind of glitch where they’re recharging people for things they bought, like, last month,” she explains.

Julie claims that she’s personally already been charged twice for old purchases.

“If you go on their website, they even put on there [that] they’re trying to fix it right now,” she adds.

She concludes by reiterating that anyone who has recently made purchases from Kohl’s should check their credit cards to make sure they were not double charged.

Is This True?

Yes.

As reported by Fox 5 Atlanta, Kohl’s shoppers have reported seeing double charges or unrequested returns for purchases made between July 24 and August 19. Some internet users have also claimed that they were charged more than twice. For example, one user claimed they were charged three times for the same purchase.

Kohl’s itself has confirmed this. According to the company, the double charges stemmed from an internal processing error. The spokesperson added that the company had not been hacked.

As far as a resolution is concerned, Kohl’s says one is already underway. The company says that it is automatically reversing all fraudulent charges. This means that customers do not need to contact their banks or card issuers to get their money back, nor should they take any additional action.

It is presently unclear how long it will take for Kohl’s to reverse all of these transactions. It is also unclear when customers can expect to get their money returned.

For customers who are still concerned about the issue, Kohl’s suggests reaching out to them through the company’s verified customer service channels.

What Should I Do If I See A Charge I Don’t Recognize?

In the case of Kohl’s, the company insists that customers do not need to take any further action.

Other situations, however, may call for a different resolution. Double charges can happen with relative ease. For example, you might not think a payment has gone through, and so you swipe your card again—accidentally charging your card twice.

If you catch it at the moment, you may be able to ask a worker at the store to reverse the charge. Then, the money will be returned to your account. This process can take between 5 and 30 days, though many are processed sooner.

If you don’t catch it in the moment, there is still time to get your money back. Many credit card issuers will note double charges and send the cardholder a warning. From there, they can easily dispute the second charge.

Alternatively, even if one is not given a warning, they can call their bank or card issuer to dispute a charge. The bank may ask a few verification questions, but eventually, the charges will be reversed.

‘Never Shopping There Again’

In the comments section, users expressed their frustration with Kohl’s.

“And all they have to say is ‘oops’ ‘sorry.’ No compensation or coupon. Never shopping there again,” wrote a user.

“Yep, just got hit with a $187 charge 2 hours after I made a $7 purchase (I had kohls cash),” affirmed another.

“I bought all of my daughters school clothes there… over 300$ worth of clothes and shoes.. and they’ve double charged me! Overqdrafted my account! & no accountability on their end other than ‘we’re working on it,’” offered a third.
