It goes without saying that American pop culture award shows, from the Academy Awards all the way down to the ESPYs, have struggled to not only maintain relevancy but to entertain the masses without shooting themselves in the foot along the way. Sunday night’s SAG Awards, however, seemed to figure something out.

Sure, the incredibly charming cast of Everything, Everywhere, All At Once sweeping up and dominating the stage helps — and will continue to do so hopefully all the way through until its deservingly crowned Best Picture at the Academy Awards — but the SAG Awards managed to strike gold elsewhere: pairing Aubrey Plaza and Jenna Ortega together.

Stars of two of the biggest TV shows of 2022 (The White Lotus and Wednesday, respectively), the SAG Awards were wise enough to realize, and capitalize on, the similar energy that the pair give off.

Given the obvious similarities between the two Hollywood stars, pop culture fans absolutely loved seeing them on stage together to “curse families and watch as misfortune follows their bloodline for the next seven generations.”

With both the personality and physical similarities that Plaza and Ortega share, it now feels like it’s only a matter of time until the pair star together in something as some sort of demonic sisters in an A24 project.

Plaza not only presented at the SAG Awards (which was recently acquired by Netflix and streamed on their YouTube channel this year before being moved to their app next year) but was one of the night’s winners, as HBO’s hit anthology series The White Lotus took home the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

As for Ortega, who anchored Netflix’s massive Wednesday series (which has been renewed for season two), will next be seen starring in Scream VI, which hits theaters on Friday, March 10.
