A bank teller has gone viral on TikTok after making an awkward revelation—they can actually see your account nickname.
If you’ve ever wanted to know the inside gossip of being a bank teller, TikTok is the place to go. But one bank teller’s viral scoop probably isn’t something people want to hear.
Banks have gone TikTok-viral before after tellers have refused to cash checks and deposited the wrong amount of money. But this video, which is from the teller’s perspective, is a lot more personal.
The video, which has garnered 1.9 million views, begins with bank teller Destiny Scott (@des.asiiiiiii) asking, “Um, I was just wondering, did you guys know that we can see what you nickname your accounts?”
“So like when you go into your mobile app, and you choose a cute little nickname for your account, it doesn’t just stay on the mobile app. It translates into our entire system. We can see it,” she said.
“So S—- Bank is not only on your mobile app, it’s on my screen..” she adds.
She continues, “So, when I ask you which account would you like to deposit into, and you say, with an attitude, the one that’s attached to the card. Well sweetheart, it’s pulling up all of your accounts, so do you want it to go to S—- Bank? I’m trying not to say that… I’m trying not to say it. But I can. Try to have some discretion, so just tell me which account are we depositing into?”
‘I Now Know Why The Teller Looked Amused’
Commenters were largely amused.
“We denied a loan because he had hookers and drugs listed on savings,” one wrote.
“Learned this when a nice teller laughed at mine being named true poverty,” another added.
“I’ve had mine named ‘Danny Debito’ for 7 years, and I’m even more proud of it now,” a third shared.
While a fourth revealed, “Straight up had a guy say ‘Oh yeah deposit it in the spending s—- again account.’ I cackled and he started laughing too.”
Similarly, a fifth shared, “I nicknamed one of my savings ‘Thoughts’ and checking ‘Prayers’, I now know why the teller looked amused and concerned.”
Other Bank Tellers Weigh In
On the r/Bank subreddit, a user asked a similar question. While one commenter said this only happened in some banks, the answer from bank tellers was mostly consistent.
“I love seeing what my CU members nickname their accounts,” one wrote. “It always gives me a chuckle. I think my current favorite is No Touchy Touchy for a savings account.”
“We can see account nicknames,” a second added. “We don’t judge, we giggle.”
A third simply said, “Yes, they can see it. No, they don’t care.”
And a fourth echoed, “Can confirm as previous comment said. Yes we can see it, 100% do not care. Same with email addresses. I see you sexxxyboi69@whatever and you, too 420fundaze@fakeemail.”
