Four days ago, Jeff Bridges donned his customary sweater jacket and cozy pajama pants and appeared in a video reprising his role as The Dude. Everyone eagerly rushed to judgment and hoped for the very best outcome — The Big Lebowski sequel. I am sad to report that the teaser video that everyone was hoping was from the trailer of The Big Lebowski 2 was actually a snippet of an upcoming Super Bowl commercial.

Instead of getting The Dude in a sequel to the Coen Brothers classic, we are getting Jeff Bridges hawking beer in a 2019 Super Bowl ad. Sorry bros. The betrayal is on a Marcus Junius Brutus level, but it gets worse. The Dude appears in a beer commercial along with Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw character from Sex and the City.

It gets even worse. The Dude trades in his iconic White Russian for a beer. What is this blasphemy?

We should have seen this tomfoolery from a mile away. Especially since it was just last year that we were expecting a new Crocodile Dundee sequel when a fake trailer appeared weeks before the Super Bowl. Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home was supposed to star Danny McBride, Chris Hemsworth, Hugh Jackman, Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Isla Fisher, Ruby Rose, Liam Hemsworth, and even Crocodile Dundee himself, Paul Hogan. In the end, the spoof trailer was all a slick marketing campaign for Australian tourism. Just as this Big Lebowski hoopla is an advertisement for beer.
