Netflix/Plan B Entertainment
After the entire year was virtually filled with nonstop discourse about Andrew Dominik’s Blonde, the NC-17-rated film about Marilyn Monroe that stars Ana de Armas has finally hit Netflix, and movie fans largely hate it.
Movie fans are absolutely crushing Andrew Dominik’s Marilyn Monroe movie Blonde for being disrespectful and exploitative
it’s insane that a movie like NOPE came out just a month ago, creating a story depicting the horrors of spectacles and exploitation only for september to be filled with the dahmer series and blonde…

“Blonde is a horrible movie please don’t watch it,” warned one Twitter user.

just watched #Blonde … it puts norma/marilyn in a box that only allows to her be abused, sexualized, or call people daddy. extremely strange. maybe we stop letting misogynistic men try to make groundbreaking films about women- of which they know nothing about.

then i can dismiss blonde as a film made to exploit a dead woman https://t.co/juopBBfbgx

With the atrocity that is #blonde being released, let’s remember Marilyn Monroe’s wish during her last ever interview…”please don’t make me look like a joke…” pic.twitter.com/NVWKn8JHX1

“Don’t Worry Darling and Blonde in the same week is enough to kill a man,” joked another Twitter user.

blonde RECREATED marilyn’s death at the EXACT SPOT she died??????????? how was this even allowed??????

i’m not sure if netflix has a warning ahead of #Blonde but there should be a major trigger warning for sexual assault, abortion, substance abuse and violence towards women.

“Don’t watch Blonde, don’t watch the Dahmer show, don’t let Netflix think people actually want this stuff and instead stream content you actually want to see more of so they know what you actually want from them,” tweeted a frustrated Netflix subscriber.

Despite the poor reception to the film itself, many movie fans came away quite impressed with Ana de Armas’ performance as the legendary actress and model. Whether or not she’ll contend for an Academy Award is another story, though, especially considering how reviled Blonde seems to be.
One of the most disappointing parts about blonde is Ana genuinely gives a career defining performance. There were two moments where I thought they added clips of the actual Marilyn into the movie but it was all just her. In another adaptation the Oscar would 100% be secured

if there’s one thing that’s sure about ‘blonde’, is that ana de armas gave it all. the performance of a lifetime, just absolutely breathtaking and spectacular! pic.twitter.com/lIbc9xVpbL

Dominik, to his credit (?), likely saw this reaction coming as he said earlier this year that the film will “offend everyone.”
“It’s a demanding movie,” Dominik said of Blonde. “If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the f—ing audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office. It’s an NC-17 movie about Marilyn Monroe, it’s kind of what you want, right? I want to go and see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story.”
Blonde, which also stars Bobby Cannavale as Joe DiMaggio, Adrien Brody as Arthur Miller, and Julianne Nicholson as Gladys Pearl Baker, is now streaming on Netflix.
