A Texas woman walked down a paved trail through a wooded area. She noticed a bobcat following closely behind her and had a surprisingly chill reaction.
In a video with over 468,000 views, TikToker and self-described nature lover Jesica King (@jesicaking6) points out the feline trailing behind her.
“Just taking a walk with a bobcat,” she says, seemingly unfazed.
In a follow-up video posted immediately after, she shows the bobcat walking in front of her toward a group of bobcats. In a comment, King describes herself as “totally relaxed and comfortable” around the animals.
Bobcats aren’t the only animal she’s run into on her walks. In other videos on her page, King runs into snakes and coyotes on the same trail.
Are Bobcats Dangerous To People?
While bobcats get a bad reputation due to their affinity for livestock, they don’t usually pose a risk to humans. An adult bobcat is only around 30 pounds and most avoid people altogether unless threatened, according to Mass Audubon.
People who live in areas with bobcats weighed in on whether others should be scared of the wild feline on the r/AskAnAmerican subreddit.
“Like others have said I’m not afraid of them but am also not about to go sticking my head into a rock outcropping that looks like it is inhabited. I worry most about my cats who live outside but they are pretty in tune with staying alive, so far at least,” one wrote.
Another suggested, “They’re very shy and don’t want anything to do with humans. They’re capable of doing some real damage, but if they’re left alone the way they want to be left alone there’s nothing to fear.”
Viewers React To The Unfazed Woman
In the comments of King’s viral TikTok, viewers couldn’t believe how chill she is about the wild animal following her on her walk.
“What dose of lexapro is this,” one joked.
“This section of the distribution system can miss me. I’m too anxious for this and he would know it,” another wrote.
“He’s probably thinking, taking a walk with lunch,” a third remarked.
However, others said they would love to join a bobcat on a walk and suggested the TikToker’s “good energy” is the reason for the unexpected interaction.
“This is pretty cool. You must have good energy cuz cats are very selective!” a commenter said.
“My toxic trait is that I think I could probably befriend this kitty and take him home,” a second wrote.
