Bryan Cranston spoke publicly about the passing of RJ Mitte
Bryan Cranston has spoken publicly about the death of RJ Mitte, the actor who played his son, Walter White Jr., on Breaking Bad. Mitte died by suicide on October 12 at the age of 34.
Speaking at the premiere of Billy Crystal’s new Broadway show 860, Bryan Cranston said that the news of RJ Mitte’s passing “threw him for a loop for several days.”

Cranston also expressed regret about not ironing out plans to meet up with Mitte and wondered if he “wanted to talk” about something.
“It’s a shame. “It threw me for a loop for several days. I didn’t understand it. He and I were trying to find out where we were — I was in New York, he was in Texas, I was coming to L.A. And we were trying to figure out [where we could meet],” Cranston said.
“I just wonder if he wanted to talk to me about something. It’s like, ‘Oh god.’ Thirty-four years old,” he continued, welling up.
The Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated actor also urged those who are personally struggling with depression to seek help.
“If you feel depression, it’s a real thing. You’re not alone and there’s help to guide you through as best they can and best you can. So it’s to seek help.”
Mitte, who was born with cerebral palsy, as was his character, played Walter White Jr. on all five seasons of the show and was an advocate for disability representation as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy.
“I’m in deep despair as I write this tonight. RJ Mitte, my sweet son on Breaking Bad has died. I’ll miss you, son,” Cranston wrote on Instagram when the news broke.
