A 2nd grade teacher in Georgia has made a 'fart corner' in her classroom
While the students of Candy Sydney-Browning, a second-grade teacher in Atlanta, Georgia, may still be too young to drive, her classroom has a gas station all the same, as she has created a “fart corner” in her classroom.
In a series of viral TikTok videos, Atlanta second-grade teacher Candy Sydney-Browning detailed how she created a designated corner in her classroom called the “Gas Station” — a “gusty winds area” stocked with air fresheners where students can quietly step away from their desks to pass gas without raising their hand, asking permission, or missing any instructional time.

@chokola___ I’m not tryna smell that while I teach😩. I’ve taught them to excuse themselves. They just get up, go to the designated area towards the back of the classroom, do what they need to do and sit back down on the rug.
In an interview with NBC, Sydney-Browning said that the idea was born out of dealing with a constant stream of restroom requests that disrupted the rest of the class, while adding that she personally has a weak stomach, thus making gas-related disruptions during class particularly problematic.
“Kids were asking to go to the bathroom constantly, and half the time, it wasn’t even necessary. They were missing instruction. Now they don’t have to miss anything,” Sydney-Browning explained.
“They just quietly get up, go to the corner, do what they need to do, spray the air freshener, and come back. No one laughs, no one says anything. It’s just normal now.”
So far, the Gas Station seems to be a hit at home, too, as Sydney-Browning said she’s gotten a “supportive” response from her students’ parents.
“Parents have been so supportive. They said their kids come home and talk about how much they love school, how they feel comfortable. That’s all I wanted.”
As they say, when you gotta go, you gotta go. Sydney-Browning has given her students a place to do exactly that.
