Model and actress Cara Delevingen's was 'Playboy's cover star of the summer
Model and actress Cara Delevingne was announced as the summer cover star for Playboy earlier this week. In her feature interview, Delevingne said posing in the magazine was partly fueled by feminism.
Cara Delevingne, who made her return to the screen this year for the first time since 2022 in Cannes Film Festival hit Club Kid, sat down for Playboy for a lengthy interview alongside her cover shoot as their cover star for the summer. Delevingne is the “first out lesbian woman to appear on the print cover,” according to Playboy.
Cara Delevingne says her Playboy cover shoot was a “rebellious” feminist act because of the magazine’s heterosexual history
According to the 33 year old former Suicide Squad star, her decision to feature in the “heterosexual institution” that is Playboy is because it felt “rebellious” to have a female-led creative team lead the shoot.
“Of course, Playboy is very much a heterosexual institution,” Delevingne said. “That’s why it felt like a bit of a f— you and a rebellious thing to do, and to have an incredible female-led creative team — a lot of them being queer — felt really fun and different.”
In recent year, Playboy has been different brand than the one it was when it made its legacy decades ago.
In 2019, the company reoriented its mission statement to “create a culture where all people can pursue pleasure” through “core values of equality, freedom of expression, and the idea that pleasure is a fundamental human right.” Earlier this year, the magazine appointed its first openly gay editor-in-chief, Phillip Picardi.
Club Kid was one of the most talked about films out of Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and reportedly received interest from Netflix and Warner Bros. Clockwork, and offers from studios such as Mubi, Focus Features, and Searchlight Pictures.
The producers of Club Kid ultimately signed a distribution deal with A24 for $17 million. The studio then gave the film a November 6 release date.
In addiiton to Delevingne, the lead actress of the film, Club Kid also stars Jordan Firstman — also the writer and director — Diego Calva, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Colleen Camp.
Club Kid follows the “life of washed-up underground party promoter Peter (Firstman), who takes an unexpected turn when he is forced to care for Arlo, a 10-year old son he never knew he had.”
