Carnival Cruise drink packages are quite popular. For a fixed price, one can enjoy copious amounts of alcohol aboard their vacation vessels.
However, the packages aren’t unlimited, as some may think. For starters, Carnival limits guests to 15 drinks within a 24-hour period. Cruise-goers have been cut off in the past. TikToker Katelyn (@kayss.adventures) recently posted a video that shows her husband coming out of “drink package” jail.
According to her, management of the cruise line revoked her hubby’s alcohol-consuming privileges for a 24-hour period.
The clip begins with the man signing a clip board as a uniformed security officer stands beside him, instructing him where to leave his signature. After a few nods from the guard, the clip comes to a close.
A text overlay in the video, along with an on-screen caption, explains what went down. “POV: your husband getting back his drink package after 24 hours … that one time Carnival took his drink package,” Katelyn penned.
Some viewers were bewildered about the sequence of events that led to him having his drinking rights taken away. One asked, “How do you get drunk on Carnival? They have a drink limit.”
Katelyn offered up a response. “Tequila shots back to back,” she explained.
Carnival Cruise Guests Share Their Own Drinking Experiences
Another speculated that the reason for the ban was attributed to unsavory behavior on Katelyn’s husband’s part. “I can’t believe so many people don’t know why. It’s because he did something bad that could easily be attributed to drinking, so they took it away until he sobered up,” they wrote.
Someone else pushed back against this logic, stating they had their drinking privileges pulled despite not engaging in any particularly poor behavior. “I had mine revoked for 48 hours and I didn’t do anything ‘bad’ I stumbled in the casino. Didn’t even fall,” they penned.
And then there were folks who mentioned that they hadn’t had their alcohol rights withheld on other cruise liners. “Never had that happen on Royal Caribbean,” one quipped.
All About Carnival’s Drink Package
According to Carnival’s website, the drink package is referred to as the CHEERS! Beverage Program. With it, passengers must pay $83.94 per person (online) per day to get 15 alcoholic drinks. This excludes full bottles of wine and alcohol. If you elect to opt for the CHEERS! program once you’re on board, you’ll need to fork over $89.94. These fees also include a 20% service charge. If multiple people are sharing a room aboard the cruise ship, then they must pay separately for the CHEERS! Program.
As Cruzely reports, Carnival does “reserve the right to cut off passengers who have had too much” with the CHEERS! package. And this includes customers who haven’t hit their daily limit of 15 drinks.
The company’s site also lists how much a la carte drinks cost for those who don’t want to consume 15 alcoholic drinks a day.
And if you’re thinking of bringing your own booze on board, think again. Carnival guests are prohibited from bringing any hard liquor or beer on the ship.
The only types of drinks you can take with you are wine or champagne: just one 750-milliliter bottle per adult. (This excludes “fortified wines” such as Port, Vermouth, Sherry, and anything that’s over 15% alcohol by volume.)
That hasn’t stopped Carnival Cruise-goers sneaking their own alcohol on board. Just look at this Reddit sub in which guests share their strategies.
