A cruise ship carrying hundreds of passengers has been quarantined in St. Lucia after a case of measles was confirmed on board the ship. Measles is an incredibly contagious disease and carries an extreme risk for anyone who hasn’t had the measles vaccination.

This isn’t just any ol’ cruise ship, the 440-foot vessel named “Freewinds” is owned and operated by the Church of Scientology who has been the topic of countless enthralling and shocking documentaries on the news, Netflix, and HBO.

Why does a Church own a private 440-foot cruise ship? Why is that cruise ship in St. Lucia? Why is there an unvaccinated passenger on the ship carrying measles locked in a tin box with hundreds of others who have been in close contact and almost certainly brushed paths with the vicious virus? These are some of the natural questions people are wondering when they see this story.

NBC News has the report:

A cruise ship with nearly 300 passengers and crew was ordered quarantined in the Caribbean port of St. Lucia after a case of measles was confirmed on board, island health officials said Wednesday.

One female crew member has a confirmed case and St. Lucian authorities said they’ve been working in close consultation with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).
The ship has been under quarantine since Monday morning, officials said.

“Measles in a highly contagious disease. Anyone who is not adequately immunized against measles can contract the disease, if there has been close contact with a confirmed case,” according to a statement issued Wednesday by Dr. Merlene Fredericks-James, the island nation’s chief medical officer. “It is therefore likely that other persons on the boat may have been exposed.”
“The ship’s doctor has the confirmed case in isolation on the ship,” Dr. Fredericks-James added. “The individual is in stable condition.” (via)

According to NBC News, St. Lucian authorities have the power to ensure that nobody leaves the ship, thus the quarantine. However, they don’t have the power to stop this Church of Scientology cruise ship from just pulling up its ropes and leaving the port and head to its next destination with the sick passenger (and exposed passengers) on board.

There have already been 700+ reported cases of the measles in the United States this year, the highest number since 1994, which is insane given that Measles was declared ‘eradicated’ in the US back in the year 2000.

Also, if you happened to see Avengers: Endgame in Fullerton, California you might want to check your ticket stub to see if you were at the AMC theater between 11pm and 4am because a woman with measles was at the theater and everyone there could’ve come in contact.
