Despite being the lead in one of the summer’s biggest movies from one of the most important directors in the world, Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy has barely done any press prior to the release of the film.

This week, however, Murphy appeared on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, where he discussed the making of the film at length.

Murphy, who has worked with Nolan on six films and features in Oppenheimer as the “father of the atomic bomb”, not only revealed that the project was shot in just 57 days but that he believes Nolan is perhaps the “perfect director.”

“He’s got all the facets: he’s amazing with actors, he’s incredibly brilliant visually, he writes the things himself, and they’re made for the theaters, they’re event movies. But they challenge you,” Murphy told Marc Maron during a recent interview on his WTF podcast.

Alongside Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, Oppenheimer also stars Emily Blunt as Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer, Matt Damon as Leslie Groves, Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, and Florence Pugh as Jean Tatlock. Additional cast members in Oppenheimer include Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Kenneth Branagh, Josh Peck, and more

Hitting movie theaters in the United States on Friday, July 21, Oppenheimer — which is based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus — is currently tracking to make in the range of $50 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend.
