A creepy clown who had been frightening people at a mall and allegedly tried to steal from some of the shopping center’s businesses was arrested last week. When confronted by police, the clown reportedly “took an aggressive attitude.”
According to a local report, the incident occurred during the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 26 in a shopping center in Uman, Mexico. Police were alerted to the clown’s presence after shoppers and merchants reported him for hiding behind a clock tower scaring pedestrians. The merchants also reported to police that he had attempted to gain entry into their businesses.

Policia Municipal Uman
When the Municipal Police of Uman arrived on the scene, the subject, a man around 25 years of age, reportedly ran from the area. He didn’t get far, as he was apprehended shortly after fleeing just a couple of blocks away.
Following his capture, police found the clown mask among his belongings. He also did not go quietly and was charged with resisting the arrest.
Around eight years ago, a creepy clown craze swept across multiple countries. Incidents such as the one that just occurred in Uman, Mexico were commonplace. Many people were arrested and/or injured as people dressing up as clowns tried to pull off several ill-advised stunts.
Things got so bad, that hundreds of clowns gathered in Mexico City to condemn the scary clowns that were popping up all over their country.
“We are clowns, not killers,” they chanted during a gathering at the Revolution Monument to protest the trend.
More recently, a Georgia man claimed that he was out for a walk when he encountered “a well-dressed man with a clown mask and a tricycle.” He claimed that he ended up being chased by the man on the tricycle and that the clown was wielding a machete.
“I was scared for my life,” said the unnamed man, who asked to remain anonymous over concerns for his safety. “He was swinging.”
