Celebrities — whether they be actors, musicians, athletes, etc. — are always at their most likable when they’re at their most relatable. In fact, that’s one of the main goals I have whenever I interview someone: I’m trying to remind the audience that these actors, usually, are regular folks just like us.

And what makes someone relatable, particularly when it comes to celebrities, is authenticity. People like people who act like themselves and don’t put on a show. It’s how Ryan Reynolds has become one of the biggest movie stars on the planet: not only is he a freight train of charisma, but he seems — despite all of his wealth and charm and good looks — like an awesome, totally normal guy. A real “get a beer with” guy, if his diet even allows for it.

Over the years, one of the best elements of Reynolds’ regular-Joe-ness has been his legitimate friendship with Hugh Jackman, which I’ve long deemed as the Best Bromance in Hollywood. Until now. Because, unfortunately for Reynolds and Jackman, they’ve been overtaken by another pair of beloved, albeit Irish, lads: Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson.

Having worked together for the first time on In Bruges back in 2008, the pair obviously kept in touch in the intervening years until they starred together in The Banshees of Inisherin, as their rapport and relationship on the PR/awards circuit has been nothing short of electric. It’s probably why Searchlight Pictures has been sending them to all of these talk shows together in the first place: they know their natural chemistry radiates through the screen.

Take back in October on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, for example, where they gleefully cursed up a storm like a pair of giggling school children.

Or earlier this year when Farrell accepted an award for Gleeson at the National Board of Review awards:

Or during the Golden Globes when Farrell looked Gleeson in the eye, called him his dance partner and told him he loved him:

As the Academy Awards approach (they’re on March 12), both Farrell and Gleeson are looking like increasingly strong contenders for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, so we’ll surely be getting more moments like these in the coming weeks.

All told, Mr. Jackman and Mr. Reynolds, take solace in the fact that while you may have lost your crown (for now), it couldn’t have been to a better duo of blokes.
