‘Tis the season to be giving, right? Right. At least that’s the mentality one college student had when she tweeted out that she’d be donating twenty-five cents for every ‘favorite’ her tweet got and fifty cents for every retweet. What she didn’t expect is to have one of the most viral tweets of 2017.

The student’s either independently wealthy or extremely cocky in her ability to fundraise because she claims she ‘shut it down’ after the amount had reached $42,350, thus agreeing to somehow donate that amount. But the retweets and fav’s didn’t stop there, and the total is now well over $200,000. There’s also a meager GoFundMe which has only raised ~$6,800 towards the $50K goal so far.

Here’s how it all went down, via Twitter Moments:

‘We from an older generation’…Fuck this guy. He’s bashing a college student for trying to raise money and being pushed beyond her means. What does he want her to do, delete the tweet? Sure, she could’ve included a ‘XYZ is the total amount I’m able to donate’ in her original tweet but that probably would’ve stopped a lot of people from retweeting/favoriting. Her tweet has also brought a ton of attention to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at a time of year when they have their biggest fundraising efforts. What’s the fucking point of bashing someone for trying to do something good? As you can see, this stupid ass attitude bothers me. Apparently I’m not the only one bothered by this:
