While Top Gun: Maverick is undoubtedly an excellent movie, it’s certainly not worth pulling a gun on someone.

According to a report from the Australian Broadcasting Company, Dominic Gaynor, 30 years old, took out his gun and pointed it at fellow law enforcement officer Morgan Royston after the latter threatened to spoil the plot of the 2022 Tom Cruise movie Top Gun: Maverick.

The court documents reveal that Royston told Gaynor, “I’ll spoil it for you.” Gaynor responded by telling Royston, “Don’t spoil the movie, c—-” and “I’ll shoot you.” He proceeded to take his glock out of his holster and “held it stationary for five seconds” while pointing it at Royston.

Gaynor was allegedly laughing during the incident and his “finger was on the receiver and not the trigger.” His lawyer described the incident as “a case where the skylarking and tomfoolery in an employment context has gone awry.” [via Variety]

As a result of his actions, Gaynor was Gaynor sentenced to 100 hours of community service, was given a community correction order for two years, and now has an official conviction on his record.

Top Gun: Maverick was one of the biggest films of 2022 as it made almost $1.5 billion at the global box office and was nominated for six Academy Awards, winning Best Sound Design. The film is also often credited with reigniting the movie theater business following the difficulties of 2020 and 2021.

In addition to Cruise, who reprised his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell from the 1986 Tony Scott-directed film Top GunTop Gun: Maverick also stars Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Jon Hamm, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer.

Top Gun: Maverick is currently streaming on Paramount+. Prior to the release of the film, BroBibles’ Post Credit Podcast spoke to Jon Hamm about Top GunThe Town, why he’s so great at making comedies, and more. You can check that out below.
