There are a number of strategies drug traffickers can harness to get their product from Point A to Point B without any issues. One woman allegedly tried to move a sizeable amount of marijuana on a commercial flight from Las Vegas to Dallas, but that plan fell apart when she got snitched on by a suitcase that failed to weather the journey.
I can’t say I have any personal experience with attempting to smuggle large quantities of drugs across state borders, but I do know there’s a wide variety of approaches you can harness to avoid ending up in jail if you find yourself in that particular line of work.
It’s possible to outsource your illicit activity by shipping your wares through the mail or trying to hide them on a tractor-trailer full of otherwise innocuous items. However, if you decide to go that route, you’re relying on other people to get the job done and don’t have a reliable way to keep tabs on the package once it’s out of your hands.
Those potential pitfalls can at least be partially addressed if you opt to make the journey with your product. There are also plenty of risks that come with driving a car filled with drugs across the country, and the same can be said for stuffing them into a suitcase and hopping on a flight while knowing it could be subjected to multiple screenings en route to your destination.
If you do decide to do that, you’ll want to make sure your luggage isn’t going to fail you, which was the case with one bag belonging to a woman who is now facing a serious charge in Texas.
Police at Dallas Love Field seized 75 pounds of marijuana that was discovered thanks to a busted suitcase
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport serves the majority of flyers in that particular area, but Dallas Love Field also facilitates hundreds of flights per day while primarily serving as a hub for Southwest Airlines.
According to Fox 4, that second location served as the destination for a flight that departed from Las Vegas on April 30th while carrying a whole bunch of weed that ended up at the center of a massive bust.
The Dallas Police Department says they received a call from an airline after someone spotted a “large amount of marijuana hidden inside” a suitcase that had opened up at some point during the journey. It allegedly belonged to a 25-year-old woman named Jennifer Manzanares-Herrera, and detectives managed to link her to two other suitcases while collectively seizing 75 pounds of weed contained in dozens of vacuum-sealed bags.
Our public safety mission includes protecting Dallas from being used as a drug transportation hub, and the Narcotics Unit maintains a presence at Dallas Love Field to detect and intervene when illegal drugs are moving through the airport.

Manzanares-Herrera was arrested before she was able to leave the airport and charged with possession of marijuana between 50 and 2,000 pounds, a second-degree felony that carries up to 20 years in prison.
