‘How Can This Be Legal?’: Woman Tries To Book Main Seat On Delta Flight From Anchorage To Dallas. Then She Realizes She’s Been Bamboozled

A disgruntled Delta customer took to TikTok after attempting to book a Main flight seat. As she went through the ‘perks’ of various Main options, it begged the question: has the airline gone too far this time?

In a video clip that has garnered 401,000 views, TikTok user @ilovecoke286 took viewers through the Delta website as she tried to order a Main seat—but was left feeling flabbergasted by the result.

“Look at this whacka— sh–,” she began, highlighting Anchorage to Dallas flight ticket prices. From the web page, it looks like the Delta Main seats started at $616, while the Delta Comfort began at $1,046. She then went into the Delta Main option, which had three different “experiences”: Main, Classic, and Extra.

The $616 Basic option was literally just the seat, with no other perks apart from the ability to cancel for partial credit. Those who bought that ticket would be in Boarding Zone 8. For $110 more, Classic included perks like being able to cancel for full credit, the ability to earn miles, being able to select seats, and eligibility for upgrades.

Those who bought Main Extra for $897 had most of the main perks, with the addition of a full credit refund if needed, enhanced priority for upgrade, an enhanced ability to earn miles and the ability to board in Zone 5.

“Every single one of these is in the same f—— class, same seats. It’s not even Delta Comfort,” she complained.

“We have lost the…plot,” she added. “This is absolute greed and chaos […] Make that make sense. How does that make sense? How can this be legal?”

BroBible reached out to the TikToker via TikTok direct message. Delta declined to comment.

Commenters Were Shocked

For the most part, commenters shared in the TikToker’s disappointment. “For under a 2 hour flight is insane…” one commented.

“Paying extra for miles, which are just a ‘Buy 10 flights get one free’ type system makes no f—– sense,” a second wrote. “If you’re paying $100 more per flight, you might as well just not get miles and save your actual money for another flight.”

While a third added, “$600 for a domestic 1.5 hour flight is insane this is why we need trains.”

“Wait… WTF do you mean that you don’t even earn miles on the first one?” a fourth chimed in. “If you’re spending money with them YOU SHOULD EARN MILES.”

More Delta Disappointment

Delta has garnered something of a reputation as of late, with other TikTokers accusing the business of things like “scamming” them out of money on their cruise or having them sit in broken seats.

However, when it comes to the website specifically, @ilovecoke286 wasn’t the only one to call out Delta. In a Reddit post, one user accused Delta of being “deceptive” with its website pricing.

“I went to book some travel today and noticed that the pricing in ‘Delta Main’ was now hiding that the price listed was in fact ‘Main Basic’, not actually what I believe used to be Delta Main Cabin, which is now ‘Main Classic’,” they wrote. “I may be late to the party here, if so apologies. This just strikes me as SUPER deceptive pricing.”

Other Redditors agreed, with one commenting, “Three types of Main is actually insane.” Meanwhile, a second quipped, “In the year 2030 we will have 18 different flavors of Main Cabin and 35 boarding zones.”

It is worth noting that this pricing model described in the Reddit post and TikTok isn’t “new”—it was actually implemented last May. Customers have the option when booking on the Delta website and app to exclude the “Basic” tier from their search.
