Man drinks 14 beers in one hour at German bar in California.

A patron at a well-known California bar downed 14 beers in less than an hour over the weekend. He did so with his wife in attendance cheering him on.

Sports radio host Dan Patrick detailed the experience during a recent show. Apparently, it’s something attempted often at Himmel Haus in South Lake Tahoe.

Patrick was in the area to compete in the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Resort. While visiting for the golf tournament, his crew stopped into the local German establishment for a bite and a drink.

What he saw blew his mind.

Himmel Haus is a popular destination.

Described as a “German restaurant and bierhaus featuring a wide variety of German and Belgian biers and wines with a simple menu of Bavarian-inspired food,” the restaurant offers traditional recipes with a California twist.

Himmel Haus opened in 2012 at the base of the Heavenly Mountain Resort. It is the only German bar in the area and the perfect stop after a day on the slopes.

The bar offers great eats, dozens of beers, and live music and entertainment. It’s gained popularity for both food quality and overall vibes. That reputation led Dan Patrick to stop in for a quick bite during his golf weekend. He left with a story to tell.

“A couple of nights ago, we go to the Himmel Haus,” Patrick recalled during a recent Dan Patrick Show segment. “There was a guy at the bar, and he was drinking some huge container of beer. Turns out, it was five liters of beer. He had to do it in under an hour. And he did.

“Five liters of beer in 40 minutes. And he was there with his wife. His wife was the one that encouraged him to do it.”

Patrick compared the brew mug to the Stanley Cup in size. He says it was massive. It proved no test to the beer guzzler, who downed the drink with relative ease.

The five-liter drink is something that’s offered by the establishment daily. Himmel Haus posted of a video of another ‘competitor’ completing the challenge years ago. He did so in less than an hour and a half.

Patrick admittedly didn’t stick around until the end of the race. He did, however, learn that the feat was accomplished later in the weekend.

The sports radio host said the man looked in somewhat rough shape during his visit. At that point in time, he still had a way to go. The patron overcame his early struggles to finish what he started.

He likely had a nice hangover the next morning as a reminder of his success. It’s a small price to pay for immortality, or at least for the admiration of his wife and the Dan Patrick crew.
